While there are many factors in our need to personalize, a study at the University of Texas has shown that there are two main factors. The first factor pointed out by the study is control. Being able to personalize allows us to take control of things and feel a sense of empowerment. Second, is the information overload we experience every day. We have so much information at our fingertips, personalization is the only way we can find information relevant to our lives, so we don’t become overwhelmed.

Another reason we crave personalization is seeing and/or hearing our own name has been proven to create a unique reaction in our brain. Our name brings us joy and makes us feel connected.
