Baytown Awards Shop Discusses How to Determine the Best Medal and Ribbon Color

It is essential to understand the corresponding colors for first, second, and third place winners and beyond when selecting awards for competitions. Competitors work extremely hard to earn the medal or ribbon you are presenting, so making sure they receive the proper award is imperative. Awards and Engraving is an awards shop in Baytown, Texas who has worked to put together information on medal and ribbon colors for competitions.

Medal tradition and what each color symbolizes began with the Olympics and spread among competitions all around the world. First place winners are commonly awarded gold medals, the rarest of the three medals, thus highlighting the special recognition of 1st place. Second place winners are awarded silver medals, the second rarest of the three medals, and 3rd place winners are awarded bronze medals, the third rarest of the three medals.

Next, if you are looking to present your winners with ribbons, there is a list of colors traditionally used for each placing. Ribbon colors are not universally recognized, and therefore the colors we provide here are only for US competitions. First, second and third place winners are typically awarded blue, red, and white, respectively. If you are looking to award those beyond the top three, the following list will help you identify the correct color: fourth place yellow, fifth place green, sixth place pink, seventh place purple, eighth place brown, ninth place grey, and tenth place light blue.

We know making sure your competitors are rewarded is extremely important to you, and we hope having a foundational understanding of colors will help you feel confident in your decisions. If you have any additional questions about the best custom medals or ribbons, Awards and Engraving is here to help!
