Tips for Wording Engraved Plaques

 

Engraved plaques can be a wonderful way to show an employee, boss, team member, coach, co-worker, or student how well they have been doing and how much you appreciate them. However, with an engraved plaque comes a decision– what should be written on it? A plaque is something that the recipient will likely keep for years and years, so you want to make sure the wording you choose is superb! Here are a few tips to help you decide exactly what words to put on your next engraved plaque: 

 

  1. Simplicity 

Try to avoid flowery, overly formal words. You want a nice balance of making the plaque sound official and well thought out, yet still sincere, genuine, and easily understood. The right balance will also depend on what kind of setting the plaque will be presented in…a banquet for a baseball team of 14-year-olds is much different than a company-wide banquet at a fancy venue.  

 

  1. Don’t be afraid to compliment. 

You don’t give out a plaque for someone being decent or mediocre at what they do. You present plaques when people show excellence. Therefore, do not hesitate to use the most complimentary words when it comes to the plaque’s engraving. Words such as “bravery” and “excellence” are completely appropriate in this situation. 

 

  1. Thoughtfulness 

When you are deciding on the phrases to engrave onto your plaque, think about how you can show your extensive thought and effort. What is it that you are really trying to commemorate? Why does the accomplishment matter to the recipient? Don’t make it too complicated but understand that the effort you put in will show through.
